Aerial Dance Studios in Hong Kong - An Expat's Perspective

Here's a list of studios that have helped me learn aerial dance over the years in Hong Kong:

(Please note that the information provided is based on my personal experience and does not come directly from the companies listed.)

Cadogan, Shop 2, G/f, 37A Cadogan St, Kennedy Town

Silk, trapeze, fitness, hammock, stretch

This is my current go-to place. The ceiling is high and there are a variety of aerial classes. Their routines tend to be a bit more trick-based with some impressive drops, but each instructor has their own style. The studio owners are professional performers and long-time instructors previously at some other famous HK studios.

Causeway Bay, King's Rd, 65號號地下 (Tin Hau Station)

Silk, hoop, hammock, fitness, stretch, contortion

The facilities are amazing for Hong Kong the ceiling is high. Not surprisingly, they offer many types of silk classes. The studio owner's classes are in Cantonese, but I have successfully taken classes and completed a performance with this studio. Mostly, I ask fellow students for help in translation or focus on watching the demo. Safety is also a top priority in this studio. I recall being asked not to climb to the top until my instructor got to know me. I thought it silly at first, but it really is important for safety. Be careful with your credits: this studio is very rule-oriented. Otherwise they are very reasonable with scheduling practice times and sometimes offer additional practice if your schedule doesn't fit, though this may only be for performances.

Unit B, G/F, Capri Bldg, 130 Austin Road (Jordan MTR station - Exit D, Tsim Sha Tsui

Pole, silk, hoop, hammock, trapeze

Another one of my favorites, though I admittedly don't make it here as often as I'd like. They provide a well-rounded set of classes for all types of aerial. I usually pop in when one of the instructors for whom I joined the studio is in town. Each instructor is different, but I would describe classes with Joe Lam as artsy and flowy. He focuses on making even simple moves beautiful, continuous flows/wraps, and conservation of energy resulting in grace.

Unit B, 18 Floor, Billion Plaza Phase 2, 10 Cheung Yue Street, Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon

Contortion, pole, flying pole, hoop, lap dance/sexy dance

This friendly studio offers 8 week classes with different levels ending in performances. It's more focused on the sexy side of aerial dance, so bring your confidence! No silk classes are available as the ceiling is lower. Also note: I've only taken the contortion classes, which don't end in a performance. The staff was always accommodating and the English level of my instructor was fluent. The group has a very friendly atmosphere, so they chat a lot. Consequently, a lot of the updates will be given in Chinese through a group chat, but they'll add it in English if you ask nicely.

Unit 10, 7/F, Blk A, Wah Tat Ind Ctr, 8 Wah Sing St, Kwai Chung

Aerial yoga, yoga, hoop, hammock, slings, dance

ADAC has a mix of aerial and yoga. I've never taken their yoga classes, but they seem quite extensive. Though I was immediately and warmly welcomed, it's good to note that classes were mostly in Cantonese, not surprising for the location. I was the only expat in my lesson, but the instructors translated to English when needed with no problem. The level of the classes is "true-to-size". Many other studios post "beginner" courses with many advanced students, but these truly are beginner if they say they're beginner. You can relax if you're a newbie or feel free to join the available higher levels if not. Their routines focus on making a beautiful dance flows instead of just tricks. The ceiling is lower, so they don't offer silk as far as I've seen, but this may change.

Multiple locations

Pole, lap/chair dance, sexy floor dance, hoop, silk, hammock, trapeze, stretching, contortion

This is one of the most famous general aerial studios in HK, and has a variety of classes at limited times, but most of their facilities and slots support pole dancing. The highest ceiling in AAA is located in Wang Cheuk Hang inside of the gymnastics gym Trybe. Many of their locations focus on sexy routines, but if you go to the studio in Trybe (Wong Cheuk Hang) then it's more acrobatic.

Word of warning: be prepared to crunch some numbers and contact the studio directly every time you reach the end of a package. If you sign up for a class that's 3 credits and you only have 2 credits left, they will NOT be automatically used, even if you buy a new package.

This list is growing and there are many other studios I have not yet seen. Further input is welcome!

Here are a few others I've seen advertised or have heard about but have not yet visited:
